Conferenza stampa presso il porto di Gaza.

Testo italiano:

“Desidero, prima di tutto, esprimere il mio enorme rispetto per le persone a bordo della Estelle.
Persone che si trovano là, da qualche parte.
Dovrebbero sapere che i nostri pensieri, le nostre speranze ed i nostri desideri li accompagnano.

I membri dell’equipaggio di questa nave come quelli delle precedenti o come quelli delle navi su cui si sono imbarcati Hagit e David, queste persone ci mostrano il vero coraggio, la determinazione e la convinzione di agire per rompere e terminare questo criminale assedio e portare giustizia e libertà al popolo della Palestina.

Per la gente di Gaza queste navi sono la drammatica dimostrazione che il mondo non vi ha dimenticato e che i popoli della terra esprimono solidarietà e sostegno per la vostra sofferenza e per l’oppressione che vivete.
E queste navi dimostrano l’impegno a voler terminare questo stato di cose.

Per la gente fuori da Gaza la Flottilla questa nave in particolare ma anche le altre rappresentano invece un drammatico esempio della propria responsabilità, l’esigenza di agire nei propri paesi per porre fine alle politiche che sostengono questi crimini di guerra.

Ogni volta che Israele blocca una nave compie un gesto che da un lato diminuisce ulteriormente la propria legittimità e dall’altro offre un sostegno a coloro che resistono nei territori e coloro che si oppongono a queste politiche all’estero.

Prima o poi quest’onda travolgerà gli argini.“

“I’d first like to express my enormous respect for the sailors on the Estelle who are out there somewhere (gestures to the sea). They should know that our thoughts and our hopes and our wishes are with them.
The sailors on this boat like the previous ones or the one Hagit was on or that David was on and others are showing us real courage, and determination and conviction to act to break and end this criminal siege and to bring freedom and justice to the people of Palestine.
For the people of Gaza, the boats are a dramatic demonstration that the people of the world have not forgotten about you, that they express their solidarity and support for you in your suffering and oppression, and that they want to commit themselves to bring it to an end.
For the people outside of Gaza the flotilla, this particular boat and the others, are equally dramatic illustrations of their responsibility to act in their own countries to bring an end to the policies that are supporting these war crimes.
I should say that every time Israel stops a boat it’s another blow to its diminishing legitimacy and another element of support for those who are resisting internally and for those who are opposing these policies outside. Sooner or later the wave will sweep over the barriers.”

“Sono qui a Gaza da alcuni giorni e speravo di poter accogliere e dare il benvenuto all’ultima imbarcazione della Flotilla, Estelle. La stavamo aspettando al porto di Gaza. La barca, come tutte quelle precedenti, è stata sequestrata dalla marina israeliana. Loro le chiamano “acque territoriali israeliane”, ma quelle sono acque a sovranità gazawa o internazionale e Israele non ha alcun diritto su quelle acque. Estelle rappresentava un ulteriore sforzo per rompere l’assedio, così come in qualche modo lo rappresenta anche questa mia visita. L’assedio è un atto criminale che non ha alcuna giustificazione. Dovrebbe essere spezzato e dovrebbe trovare forte opposizione da parte del mondo circostante. E’ semplicemente lo strumento utilizzato da Israele per intimidire la popolazione di Gaza in un clima di auto-distruzione, per provare a liberarsi di loro e distruggerne la società. Non esiste alcuna giustificazione per tutto questo – nemmeno quelle militari a cui loro fanno appello e che non hanno alcuna credibilità.

Le persone a bordo di Estelle dovrebbero essere onorate e rispettate per il loro coraggio e il loro impegno e per aver preso parte a una tale missione per rompere l’assedio, un assedio criminale, e portare speranza alla popolazione di Gaza che vive imprigionata, letteralmente imprigionata nel più grande carcere del mondo. “I’m here in Gaza, I’ve been here for several days. I was here hoping to greet the latest boat from the Flotilla, the Estelle. We were waiting at the Gaza port. The boat, like earlier ones, was hijacked by the Israeli navy. They call it Israeli territorial waters, it’s actually Gazan waters or international waters, Israel has no right to those waters. The Estelle was another effort to break the siege, as in some way is our visit. The siege is a criminal act that has no justification. It should be broken and it should be strongly opposed by the outside world. It’s simply an effort to intimidate the Gazans into self-destruction, to try to get rid of them and destroy the society. There is absolutely no justification for it – military justifications are claimed but they have no credibility. The people on the boat should be honoured and respected for their courage and commitment and for undertaking a brave and important effort to break the siege, the criminal siege, and bring hope to the people of Gaza who are imprisoned, literally imprisoned in the biggest prison in the world. Also to bring to the world the message that we on the outside have a real responsibility to bring these criminal acts to an end.
